Phil Schiller Responds To iPhone 5 Scratching Issue: “That is Normal” For Any Aluminum Product:
Some users have raised concerns about the black iPhone 5's anodized aluminum coating being susceptible to scratching.
9to5Mac reports that one of their readers sent an email to Phil Schiller - Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing regarding the scratches on his black iPhone 5. Schiller apparently replied back saying that scratching is "normal" with use.
Q: I love my Black & Slate iPhone 5, but I've been seeing some scuffs, scratches and marks throughout the band around the phone along with many others. What should we all do? Any plans to fix this?
Schiller: Any aluminum product may scratch or chip with use, exposing its natural silver color. That is normal.
Durability tests have also shown that iPhone 5's anodized aluminum back is more susceptible to scratches than iPhone 4S' glass back.
It has been less than a week since customers have got their hands on the new iPhone, so it seems to be a concern that users are noticing scratches and scuffs so soon with normal use. The other concern is that quite a few users have noticed scratches right out of the box.
